King Charles and Prince William Break Their Silence and Send Prince Harry Birthday Wishes

Prince Harry celebrated a milestone birthday yesterday as he turned 40.

While the Duke of Sussex spent the day with friends and family in Montecito, across the pond, his dad, King Charles, and his brother, Prince William, publicly sent him birthday wishes.

"🎂 Wishing The Duke of Sussex a very happy 40th birthday today!" the royal family's official social media handle posted. The Prince and Princess of Wales then reshared it, writing, "Wishing a Happy 40th Birthday to The Duke of Sussex!"

This is the first time since 2021 that the royal social media accounts have wished Harry a happy birthday. Notably, though, in 2022, Kensington Royal (the account of Will and Kate) posted birthday wishes to Meghan Markle, writing, "Wishing a happy birthday to The Duchess of Sussex!"

While they may seem trivial, the birthday wishes are significant amid the ongoing rift between Harry and his father and brother. Just last month, when Prince Harry flew to the UK for the funeral of his uncle, he and William did not reunite. In 2021, according to Harry's memoir Spare, Charles reportedly tried to mediate between his sons, telling them, "Please, boys, don’t make my final years a misery."

Reflecting on his fortieth, Prince Harry told the BBC, "I was anxious about 30, I’m excited about 40. Whatever the age, my mission is to continue showing up and doing good in the world." He continued, "Becoming a father of two incredibly kind and funny kids has given me a fresh perspective on life, as well as sharpening my focus in all my work. Being a dad is one of life’s greatest joys and has only made me more driven and more committed to making this world a better place." Harry concluded, "Bring on the next decade."
