Labrador Retriever's Ambitious Love for Tennis Balls Has Everyone Laughing Out Loud

Dogs are such loving, joyful creatures with an ability to live in the moment that people wish they could imitate. They understand the importance of stopping to smell the roses, and they never waste an opportunity to do something fun or interesting. This randomness is part of what gives dogs their charm, but it can also lead to hilarious moments like the one dog owner @sysengineer witnessed on September 4.

This loving Lab owner is used to her pup's shenanigans, but even she couldn't believe her eyes when Gemma, her Yellow Labrador, managed to fit two tennis balls in her mouth at the same time. It's hard not to admire the dog's ambition, but it's even harder not to laugh at her silly feat!

OMG--she's so proud of herself! At first, I gasped when I saw Gemma's jaws stretched wide open, but I couldn't help but laugh as soon as she started wagging her tail. This confirms that she absolutely knew what she was doing, and she's very happy she was able to do it. The rest of us, however, are still a bit confused!

"I'm scared and impressed," wrote commenter @onepointsixoneeight. I know exactly what you mean! It seems so uncomfortable to have you jaws open so wide, but it doesn't seem to phase Gemma one bit. This ambitious Labrador Retriever was practicing what she was bred to do--retrieve--though no one told her she didn't have to retrieve everything at the same time!

Viewers like @toddler94 loved "the tail wagging when she looks at you," and he's not the only one. I think everyone smiled a little bit wider when they saw how happy this Yellow Lab is. She's in her happy place with her tennis balls and mom, and all is right in the world.

Why Dogs Love Tennis Balls

Gemma definitely steals the show with her passion for tennis ball retrieval, but she's far from the only dog with an interest in tennis balls. What about tennis balls makes them so appealing to dogs?

Tennis balls are neon colored to make them more visible during sports, but this color also appeals to dogs. Because dogs are essentially red-green color blind, they can only see shades of yellow and blue (along with black, white, and every shade of gray). Neon yellow doesn't look like any other color, so odds are it stands out to your pup, too!

Dogs also have a prey drive, no matter how deep down it may be hidden. You'll see this prey drive come to the surface as they stalk, hunt, and chase their favorite toys, just like Gemma getting her mouth on every tennis ball she can find!
