The Lady-Like, Editor-Loved Bag That Is Perfect for Every Occasion

As someone who has a fair share of events on their calendar on any given week, I am no stranger to the notion of having to go from-day-to-night lickety split. And often times, the secret to that is a bit of a makeup zsuzh, a shoe and accessories swap, and perhaps most crucially, switching my bag. Nobody wants to be the person carrying an oversized tote at a cocktail party, which we were all reminded of in Succession's final season.

The perfect bag to go from day to night has to have a few things working for it: it needs to be able to work with a number of aesthetics and even dress codes, it shouldn't be too small to hold the basics, and it should probably be workable year round. In my mind, that is the Savette Symmetry pochette to a T. This is a bag, which I borrowed for over a month, and frankly did not want to return, because I was able to make it work with so many different scenarios.

First, the basics. I love the structure and the ladylike shape. Truly a piece that isn't going to look dated—and really just looks tasteful and elevated no matter the context you wear it. Next, while pared back in silhouette, I love the size. It's sizable at 9 inches long, 5 inches wide, and 3 inches deep. Translation: it's not a bag that will fade to the background. It is very much an integral part of a look, and it just so happens to be able to hold a wallet, phone, keys, lipgloss and AirPods easily, and perhaps more crucially, no warping. No things spilling out when you open it either; the clasp, I found, is easy to open and close with one hand.

Some secondary details that I am obsessed with: there's a handle that retracts so you can either hold the bag as a clutch, or through the handle. And the leather? It's beyond buttery soft, but not in a way that you feel like you have to be precious about the piece. Obviously, I think every colorway is beautiful, but the black leather with gold hardware is particularly stunning, especially as we approach fall and winter.

Long story short, if you need an evening-appropriate bag that you could get away with carrying during the day, the Savette Symmetry pochette is the one. As for me, I'm hoping they bring the piece back in a rich oxblood, or might add the black colorway to my closet permanently, because it's just so wearable. There's a reason why all of the editors love this bag—and it totally lives up to the hype.
