Meghan Markle Wears Princess Diana’s Butterfly Earrings on Colombia Tour
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s four-day quasi-royal tour of Colombia (which began on Thursday, August 15, and concluded yesterday, August 18) generated a lot of talk. Like, it was even billed by the press as a “DIY royal tour” before it even began.
But there’s no denying that the four-day whirlwind was well-spent, as the couple partook in plenty of cultural and charitable endeavors. The Duchess, Meghan Markle, met with organization heads, politicians, and schoolchildren, all the while giving a masterclass in tonal, seasonal, and chic dressing.
The entire four days of “tourdrobe” outfits were notable, and she exhibited her usual sleek style throughout. When visiting a traditional music school, she donned a patterned black top and flowing maxi skirt co-ord by Johanna Oritz, which she accessorized with Ray-Ban aviators, tan Aquazzura sandals, a woven cross-body bag, and Cartier jewelry. Another look, which she donned while touring a historic village, saw Meghan dress in an all-white, monochromatic ’fit—a knit sleeveless tank with a linen maxi skirt and black thong sandals. She topped it off with a straw white hat by a local designer named Hannia Char.
But for the Cosmo fashion team, there was one standout we simply couldn’t stop talking about. And it had to be from the second day, when she accessorized her camel-colored blazer and accompanying Chanel ballet flats with crystal butterfly earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana.
As shown, Princess Di was pictured wearing the same exact earrings at the beginning of her first royal tour to Canada in 1986.
Now, this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Meghan wear her late mother-in-law’s jewels. At her and Harry’s 2018 wedding reception, Meg was pictured wearing Diana’s large aquamarine ring. In their engagement interview, Harry discussed how Meghan’s engagement ring linked back to his mother.
“The ring is yellow gold because that’s [Meghan’s] favorite. The main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds on the side are from my mother’s jewellery collection, to make sure she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”
We’re not crying, you are!
FYI, on this same trip, Meghan gave a rare update on Lilibet (who’s now three years old, would you believe!?!?!). When will we see Meghan and her next-level tourdrobe back in the UK? Not for a while, it seems.
