In January, Bolton revealed that he was recovering from surgery that removed a brain tumor. He shared that just before the holidays, his doctors discovered the mass, which required immediate surgery.

"Thanks to my incredible medical team, the surgery was a success," he wrote on Facebook at the time. "I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family."

He explained that throughout the following months, he would be “devoting [his] time and energy to recovery,” noting that he was taking a break from his tour. "It is always the hardest thing to postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and get back to performing soon."

Ahead of the initial announcement, the two-time Grammy winner released his 24th studio album, Spark of Light, in July 2023. Following the release, Bolton told PEOPLE that the album and its single "Beautiful World” were about him sharing positivity in dark times.

He explained that the optimism on Spark of Light was inspired by the pandemic, and the need to find positivity in the darkest of times.

"We were basically observing our friends and family and seeing that they all really needed some light, that it was so dark and oppressive and basically we were all just carrying layers of fear to our every day," he said.

"And so we started to feel a sense of responsibility to deliver hope and promise and all these feelings that seem to be so elusive, and it started to become a feel-good record."
