Another color of the year selection has been announced, and the latest pick is further proof that jewel tones are going to dominate in the coming year. Minwax, America’s best-selling brand of interior wood stains, has chosen Violet—a deep, saturated shade of purple—as its 2025 color.

“Deeper, more saturated colors, including violet-influenced blues, can serve as compelling alternatives to timeless shades,” said Lisbeth Parada, color and design lead for Minwax. “Violet, when paired with natural wood tones, creates a striking contrast that feels both classic and contemporary."

Minwax chose its 2025 Color of the Year based on current and upcoming design trends. According to the brand, Violet draws inspiration from the growing maximalist movement, which features vivid colors combined with intricate patterns and textures. Maximalism is a celebration of personal expression that is demonstrated through eclectic combinations and bold statements.

While it is undeniably a departure from neutrals, there are many practical ways to incorporate Violet in the home. "From subtle color accents to bold statements with color drenching, this versatile shade offers homeowners countless ways to infuse depth and character into any space," says Parada.

As a wood stain, Violet also allows consumers to get creative with upcycling furniture, a rising trend among younger generations. "Violet redefines interior wood finishing by blending timeless elegance with contemporary boldness,” said Parada. “Whether adding character to a cherished heirloom, revitalizing furniture, or creating inviting spaces like home coffee bars or reading nooks, Minwax Violet interior stain adds a touch of joy to any room."
