Listen up, Mountain Dew fans: There’s a new competitor in town. Mountain Dew, invented in 1940, has long been a staple in households thanks to its delicious lemon-lime flavor (and of course, the most important aspect of soda: lots of fizz). The citrus-inspired drink has gone up against some big players, like Sprite and Dr Pepper, for as long as we can remember.

With Mountain Dew gaining somewhat of a cult following over the years—and with healthy alternative sodas on the rise, such as Poppi and Zevia—it’s no surprise that the iconic flavor is being replicated, at least to some degree. So, who’s the latest company giving Mountain Dew’s lemon-lime soda a run for its money? Well, it’s Olipop.

Olipop's Newest Flavor: Ridge Rush

Olipop, advertised as a healthy prebiotic soda brand, just released a flavor named Ridge Rush. The non-GMO, high-fiber beverage features a combination of lemon, lime, and orange juices. One can of the drink includes just four grams of sugar and a blend of stevia and green tea caffeine extracts, offering a nice energy boost. Like Mountain Dew, Ridge Rush also taps into that caffeine kick consumers love.

“If you love Mountain Dew, you’ll love Ridge Rush,” one commenter said on Olipop’s Instagram announcement. Other customers described the drink as “literally better than Mountain Dew,” calling it “life-changing” and their “favorite” flavor to date.

The soda company has been cranking out new blends lately, with fans obsessing over Olipop’s Barbie collab (a Peaches & Cream flavor) from earlier this year. Olipop already offers a similar variety to Ridge Rush—Lemon Lime—but without the caffeinated green tea boost and additional orange juice concentrate.

Looks like the only way to know for sure is to pick up Olipop’s Ridge Rush and see if it really is better than Mountain Dew.
