Olympic Gymnast Gabby Douglas Reveals Her "Very Simple" Beauty Routine

When Gabby Douglas took home the title of Olympic All-Around Champion in 2012 at age 16, she became the first African-American gymnast to do so. She was also the first U.S. gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympic Games. Gabby returned to represent the United States as one of the "Final Five" at the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the three-time gold medalist currently has her sights set on making the 2028 Olympic gymnastics team.

"I was very sad to end my Paris journey, but I'm very grateful for all the lessons," Gabby, who was unable to compete in 2024 due to a foot injury, told Good Housekeeping. "I'm excited to continue my gymnastics career. I'm definitely looking at 2028, but in the meantime would love to go to a few more World Championships."

We spoke to the 28-year-old, who filled us in on her workout routine, skincare secrets and the must-have items she always keeps in her gym bag.

Acne Foaming Cleanser

Gabby begins her "very simple" skincare routine by washing her face with the super-affordable Good Molecules Acne Foaming Cleanser. "I find when I do too much, my skin really starts to break out," she shares. "I just have that skin where it's like, don't do the most — so I just don't do the most."

Organic Vitamin E Oil

The third and final step in Gabby's skincare routine is to rub in Vitamin E oil. She uses this one from Dr Joe Lab. "Nothing to it," she adds of her ritual. "Morning and night."

Daily SPF

"I rub sunscreen on my face every day. It limits the harsh UV lights from the sun," Gabby shares. Her go-to face sunscreen is Cocokind's Daily SPF.

DIPBROW Gel

"I'm very basic," Gabby says of her beauty essentials. "The only time I get very glammed up is on a shoot. On the regular I really don't wear makeup. I will gel my eyebrows — fluff them up a little bit — and that's it." Gabby's brow pick is the Anastasia Beverly Hills DIPBROW Gel.

Rambler Vacuum Bottle

"I either go all in or not at all. So my workout routine is very intense every time I do it," Gabby reveals. "When I'm not in the gym, I do trampoline workouts, dancing workouts, weight training. But when I'm in the gym I do more cardio."

She always has her water bottle with her so she can stay hydrated while working out, and notes she's "team YETI." The Good Housekeeping Institute's Kitchen Appliances and Innovation Lab also selected the YETI Rambler as their best overall water bottle in 2024, according to testing.

Bag Balm Skin Moisturizer

"[My] gym bag is all over the place," Gabby admits. "I have extra snacks, I have my tape, I have my pre-wrap, dirty shorts, extra leo..." Another must in her gym bag is Vermont's Original Bag Balm, which she uses to keep her hands soft and help repair her skin after working them on bars and floor.

To take care of her body and help protect from injuries, Gabby cites MTape as another essential she always carries around in her gym bag. She also packs pre-wrap.

Grass-Fed Organic Whey Protein Powder

"I've been trying to get a lot of protein in because I am still training. Before, on my 2024 journey, I had to make sure that I was getting the right amount of nutrients for my muscles in my body since I was back in the intense sport," Gabby says. At home, Gabby's "go-to" is her Breville coffee machine. "I do it every morning," she says.
