'Practical Magic' Star Nicole Kidman Confirmed a Sequel Is Officially in the Works

In 1998, fans met sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) in the movie Practical Magic, based on the novel of the same name by Alice Hoffman.
The story followed the siblings who come from a long line of witches in their family. While their aunts taught Sally and Gillian little things about the powers they possess, they needed to use their magic in order to break a curse that potentially had devastating consequences for them.
Between a dynamic cast and intriguing plot, it wasn't a surprise that folks fell in love with Practical Magic. The movie has such a loyal following that almost three decades after its initial premiere, fans hope that there would be more stories to tell with Sally and Gillian Owens. Well, lucky for them, it looks like their wish came true, as a sequel (currently titled Practical Magic 2) is officially in the works.
Is there a Practical Magic 2 movie coming out?
On June 10, Warner Bros. Pictures (a.k.a. the movie studio behind the original film) had fans in a tizzy by announcing a sequel to Practical Magic was officially in the works. What's more, Deadline revealed Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock were in negotiations to reprise their roles as Sally and Gillian Owens, along with a new job as producers for the movie.
"It’s official! Practical Magic 2 is in development and coming soon. 🌟🧙♀️," read the caption on Instagram.
Naturally, longtime lovers of Practical Magic were ecstatic and couldn't wait to comment on the news in the comments. "🥹 never saw this coming! ❤️ 'you’re always on my mind!!!!!'" one person screamed. "WHAT IM FREAKING THE HECK OUT THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES," another exclaimed. "STOP it!!!!! This is the BEST NEWS EVER!!!! ❤️🔥🙌," a different follower added.
Who is in the cast of Practical Magic 2?
To the excitement of fans, Nicole confirmed to People she and Sandra are set to return to Practical Magic 2 and portray their original roles as Sandy and Gillian Owens.
"Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that's that," she told the outlet at the June 13 premiere of her upcoming Netflix film A Family Affair. "There's a lot more to tell which is why we go, 'OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this.' [We] found a way in."
Meanwhile, Sandra had a simple phrase when talking about the upcoming film with former Practical Magic director Griffin Dunne at the June 18 launch of his book The Friday Afternoon Club: A Family Memoir. "Here comes trouble, but good trouble," she said, per People.
While it's not clear if any other original cast members (like Aidan Quinn, Dianne Wiest or Stockard Channing) will come back for Practical Magic 2, we may need to cast a spell for this to happen...

Although Practical Magic 2 is still in the beginning stages of development, given its association with Warner Bros., there's a good chance the movie will stream on Max.
