Sheetz plans $145 million Ohio distribution center to broaden Midwest reach

One of Pennsylvania's largest employers is expanding its footprint in Ohio.

Altoona-based gas station and convenience store chain Sheetz will build a $145 million food preparation and distribution facility in Findlay, Ohio, about 45 miles south of Toledo.

The center will underpin the company’s continued market growth throughout the United States; the project is expected to create 700 jobs in the region over five years.

Sheetz worked closely with local and state economic development organizations to put the plan in motion, and Findlay City Council unanimously favored the move, said Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine on Monday lauded the company’s decision to build in Findlay, a city of roughly 40,000 people. Other Sheetz distribution facilities are located in Claysburg, Blair County and Burlington, North Carolina.

“Sheetz stores have been extremely well received in the Ohio communities where they’ve expanded, and this new, advanced facility will improve efficiencies for the company both here at home and throughout the Midwest while creating good-paying jobs in the Findlay area,” DeWine said.

Sheetz, a 24-hour, family-owned business founded in 1952, is quickly approaching 700 stores spanning six states. The company last year announced plans to launch more than two dozen new stores in western Pennsylvania alone in the next few years. It’s set to open its first Michigan location, too.

“We’re excited to bring new opportunities to the area as we continue to expand throughout the state of Ohio and into Michigan in 2025,” said Sheetz CEO Travis Sheetz. “Findlay is located in the heart of this new growth area and will play a big role in the future of Sheetz.”
