Fall brunch means pumpkin pancakes, seasonal omelets and a tasty drink to wash it all down. For some, that can be a cocktail, and while typical go-tos include mimosas and espresso martinis, Florence Pugh just shared another option that is definitely worth the try.

In a recent video for British Vogue, the We Live in Time star took on the “Ultimate British Taste Test” by whipping up her specialty Elderflower Collins alongside her go-to cheese board. But we’re most intrigued by the last drink she made and tried: an English Breakfast Mar-Tea-Ni. Will this put the classic espresso martini to shame?

The secret to the mar-tea-ni is what it sounds like: there’s black tea infused in the drink, specifically in the gin. Pugh says that the infused gin has an afternote of tea at the end, bringing out a more intricate flavor.

In a cocktail shaker, the actor adds ice, the tea-gin, marmalade, bitters, fresh lemon juice and her personal touch of fresh orange juice. After shaking it up and giving it an initial taste, Pugh decided to double the marmalade to elevate the sweetness of the drink. Poured into frozen martini glasses and garnished with an orange peel, she gave it a sip and admitted that it’s “actually quite tasty.”

“It’s nice,” she says. “There’s so many complex flavors. You’ve got black tea in there, which you can actually get the aftertaste of, and then you've got the tartness of the marmalade, but it's also sweet. So every single time you get a really sharp flavor, it twists into a really yummy aftertaste. And the lemon is really healthy, but I really liked putting the orange in there, 'cause it made it a bit more citrusy.”

The result is a martini for tea lovers that brings out bright, natural flavors in each sip. Since it’s an alcoholic beverage, it’s a great occasional drink when looking to treat yourself, whether for a brunch with friends or as a post-dinner glass. While cocktails out on the town are nice, homemade drinks like this can help limit the added sugar in each serving. This also may reduce the risk of a terrible hangover, as sugary drinks can actually cause dehydration. For another fruity martini option, try our Pomegranate Martini, which is especially refreshing during the holiday season.
