Watch Lisa’s Mesmerizing ‘New Woman’ and ‘Rockstar’ Performance at the MTV VMAs
Lisa put on a show for the MTV VMAs audience, performing a medley of her songs “New Woman” and “Rockstar” onstage. The Blackpink singer, who has always been known for her dance skills, didn’t hold back for her solo VMAs debut. Her routine was full of elaborate choreography (including chairs!) and even some pyrotechnics. On the red carpet, she said to expect “a lot of red and flames” from her set, and that’s exactly what she delivered.
It didn’t take long for fans on X, formerly known as Twitter, to share clips from her performance and marvel over the show:

Lisa is up for four awards this evening, with her single “Rockstar” earning nods in the Best K-pop Song, Best Editing, Best Art Direction, and Best Choreography categories.
The star, who is ELLE’s September cover girl, spoke about the difference between her onstage persona versus her real self during a video interview.
When she is singing, “onstage, everything has to be on point,” Lisa said. “It’s performance Lisa, like, I want to make sure that they’re having fun, and they will stand and dance with me. Sometimes I would like convince them to like, get up, get up and dance!” She laughed. “Offstage is just chill, stay home, watch Netflix, be with my cats and dog. When I have my cats on top of me and they’re purring, that’s the best.”
She also spoke about how she approaches performing with her fellow Blackpink members, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé. “When I’m onstage [with Blackpink], I share my energy with my members,” she explained. “If she gives 100, I’ll give 120. We can feel each other. And I love that energy.”
While each of them has done solo projects, the band is still together. “Of course we’re continuing, for sure,” Lisa told ELLE. “We’re so proud of Blackpink, and I love Blackpink. It is not just because of our fans, it’s for ourselves.” She added in Korean, “There was no doubt. This is our life.”
