Why Prince Louis Didn't Join Kate Middleton or Prince William at Sporting Events Like His Siblings

While Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte took in the tennis action at Wimbledon and Prince William took Prince George to Germany for the UEFA European Championship soccer game on July 14, little brother Prince Louis missed the sporty outings.

It was a weekend of athletic action for the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 42, and their two eldest children, some wondered where 6-year-old Prince Louis was — with one social media user joking on X that he was "partying at home" Home Alone-stylewhile his parents and siblings were out.

Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 9, have both attended Wimbledon twice already, but in both cases, the royal children didn't attend until they were 8. If Prince William and Princess Kate stick to precedent, Prince Louis still has two years to go until a likely appearance at the tennis tournament.

The rules at the elite athletic event are also very strict. The Wimbledon Code of Conduct Guide tells spectators, "Please don’t make any noise during a rally." Excessive noise while a match is in progress is grounds for removal at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

While Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended professional soccer games as youngsters with their parents in a private capacity, it's only been in the past few years that George has accompanied his parents to ones where they've held special roles. Prince William is president of the Football Association, the governing body of soccer in England, and often takes on duties such as handing out awards during high-stakes games.

Prince William and Prince George matched in suits and ties for the soccer final which saw Spain defeat England with a score of 2-1.

While Princess Kate, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis didn't travel to Germany for the soccer game, they kept up with the game at home. The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a rare photo of their two youngest children watching the action on TV, with the royal kids wearing personalized soccer jerseys featuring their names and current ages as their numbers.

"@England, your teamwork, grit and determination were an inspiration to all of us, young and old. Congratulations to Spain. W & C," the couple wrote on social media, using their first initials to signal that the message came directly from them.

Prince Louis also stayed back on June 21, when Prince William took Prince George and Princess Charlotte to Taylor Swift's Eras Tour show in London on his 42nd birthday. The royals snapped rare selfies with the music superstar and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, and the image posted to Swift's Instagram account was significant as her social media debut with the Kansas City Chiefs star.

Princess Kate didn't attend the concert either, as she has maintained a low profile this year after announcing in March that she is undergoing treatment for cancer. Her appearance at Wimbledon on July 14 was her second public event of 2024, following Trooping the Colour on June 15.

Princess Kate was close to her children throughout the pageantry for the parade for King Charles' official birthday, where Prince Louis' cheeky charm was on full display. Fan footage captured the little prince yawning, dancing and playing with curtains in the window of the Major General's Office, where he watched the presentation of flags with Princess Kate, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

"He's a cheeky monkey — a typical third child," an insider close to the royal family previously told PEOPLE about Louis.

While Prince Louis has attended some major royal events including Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022 and King Charles' coronation in 2023, his siblings often step up to show him the royal ropes.

At Trooping the Colour last month, Prince Louis turned around to chat with his dad behind him, but Prince George appeared to tell his brother, "Turn around," and gestured for him to face forward. Elsewhere during the day, Princess Charlotte was spotted telling her little brother how to hold his arms as the national anthem played and appeared to tell Prince Louis to "stop" as he danced around to the band's music.
