On Sunday, actress Lily Gladstone walked the red carpet at the 76th Emmy Awards in Los Angeles wearing a black velvet gown with a copper breastplate. The sculptural piece was etched with an organic design and hung from a thin strap around her shoulders. The gown fell in a long train behind her on the red carpet.

She paired the look with black open toe shoes and diamond stud earrings. She had her hair swept back in a low ponytail and wore a smokey eye and dark pink lip.

She was nominated alongside Kali Reis, who starred in True Detective: Night Country, making them the first Indigenous women ever nominated for acting in Emmys history.

At the Oscars this year, Gladstone was the first Native American actor to win a nomination for Best Actress. She was nominated for her role as Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s lauded film Killers of the Flower Moon.

The series Under the Bridge was based on a true crime book by Rebecca Godfrey which focuses on the real story of Reena Virk, a Canadian girl who was murdered in the late 1990s. Gladstone’s character, Cam Bentland, is a fictionalized version of members of the police force tasked with Virk’s case.

“After Killers of the Flower Moon, seeing another true-crime piece, I leaned away a little bit,” Gladstone told Vogue of the adaptation. “Seeing an Indigenous woman cop, I thought, That’s a really huge chunk of the representation you have onscreen for Indigenous actresses. I think I, [like] a lot of performers, hope that there’s room to expand and grow and contextualize the character.”
