Prep roundup: Mendon, White Pigeon and Burr Oak win big on Friday

CONCORD — The Mendon football team scored a whole lot of points on Friday night — 84, to be exact.

The Hornets traveled to Concord and won 84-20, scoring points in all four quarters: 30 in the first, 42 in the second and six in both of the final two stanzas.

Concord actually led at one point in the game 6-0. Mendon answered with TD runs of 51 and 13 yards from Owen Gorham. Following a Concord score, Gorham scored again with a 52-yard run. JT Lux found the end zone late in the first on a 1-yard plunge, making the score 30-12.

Mendon put up six touchdowns in the second quarter. Lux scored the first (seven yards) before Ryder Gorham scored on a 48-yard run. Owen Gorham then rushed for TDs of 64 and 59 yards before Xavior Zinsmaster scored on runs of 50 and five yards.

It was 72-20 at halftime.

Scoring touchdowns in the second half were Cam Bingaman (three yards) and Zinsmaster (23 yards).

Mendon out-gained Concord 575-262 in the game. Owen Gorham rushed 12 times for 303 yards and five touchdowns. Zinsmaster ran for 79, Lux added 75 and Ryder Gorham added 68.

Owen Gorham made nine tackles, while Ryder Gorham, Grant Crotser and Alex Zagon all had seven tackles.

White Pigeon 65, Cassopolis 0

White Pigeon improved to 3-0 on Friday with a 65-0 win at Cassopolis.

The Chiefs rumbled for 373 yards on 36 carries. Taylor Stewart led the way with 138 yards and one TD, while Jordan Pisco scored twice with 76 yards. Jase Roach scored twice with 57 yards rushing. Maddix Janscaz rushed for two scores as well with 33 yards.

Mekhi Singleton and Pisco each had four tackles, and Janscaz made three tackles.

Paw Paw 63, Sturgis 0

Paw Paw beat Sturgis 63-0 in Wolverine Conference action on Friday night. The Red Wolves posted 28 points in the first and second quarters and added seven more in the third.

The Red Wolves held a total yardage advantage of 450 to -15. Kaidyn Fugate led Sturgis with seven rushing yards. Beckett Lamb completed 10 passes for 45 yards.

Niles 55, Three Rivers 6

Niles beat Three Rivers 55-6 in prep football action on Friday night. The game was originally scheduled to be played in Three Rivers but was moved to Niles for precautionary reasons after a social media threat.

Niles scored 20 points in the first quarter and added 28 in the second to lead 48-0 at halftime. Three Rivers' touchdown was scored by Brayden Carpenter on a TD pass from Aidan Williams in the third.

The Vikings led in total yards 489-75.

Three Rivers was led by Marshall Andrews II with 34 yards rushing, and LJ Hensley added 23 yards. Williams completed four passes for 60 yards. Carpenter caught two for 59, Hensley and Lamonta Stone both caught one.

Jace Gray led the defense with five tackles, Blake Stewart made four stops. Carpenter had two tackles for loss.

Gobles 46, Marcellus 40

Marcellus gave Gobles a tough game but dropped a 46-40 decision to the Tigers on Friday night.

Parker Adams tossed four TD passes for the Wildcats and threw for 240 yards. Abram Coffey caught seven of those for 199 yards and three TDS. Beau Ferguson caught two passes for 41 yards, including a touchdown.

Martelle Enright also returned a kickoff for a touchdown.

Brock McWilliams led Marcellus with 13 tackles on defense.

Britton-Deerfield 40, Colon 7

Britton-Deerfield beat Colon 40-7 in 8-player football action on Friday.

The Magi scored first in the game, a five-yard TD from Garry Lord. Britton-Deerfield then scored 40 unanswered points to win.

Britton-Deerfield out-gained Colon 368-113 for the game. Lord led the Magi with 48 yards rushing. Jeremiah West completed nine passes for 100 yards. Carter Persons caught three passes for 61 yards, Jonathan Wickey caught three for 18, Ayden Delp snagged two passes and Parker Nystrom caught one.

Jonny Greenwald made 13 tackles and recovered a fumble. Wyatt Downs had 10 tackles with 2.5 for loss. Wickey and Nystrom each had an interception, and Davis Lafler recovered a fumble.

Burr Oak 56, North Adams-Jerome 12

Burr Oak improved to 2-1 on the season with a 56-12 road win at North Adams-Jerome on Friday.

The Bobcats scored three times on the ground with Austin Cole.

Ethan Boyles and Caleb Green each scored a rushing touchdown, while Cohen Miller, Braxton Boyles and Caleb Green each caught a TD pass. Kaje Root added a two-point conversion.

Both Austin Cole and Green forced a fumble. Braxton Boyles recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass as well.

"All Bobcats contributed to this win," coach Vince Royer said. "The coaches are proud of the freshmen as they step up to varsity play."

Burr Oak hosts Tekonsha next week.
