Week 1 of the high school football season has arrived, and there's a full slate of season openers set for Friday, Aug. 23.

Week 1 scores

John Glenn 42, Maysville 0: Andrew Glaub had a pair of short scoring runs and Owen Edwards threw for a score and ran for another, as the Muskies routed the Panthers.

Edwards found Jake Johnson for a 32-yard TD to open the scoring then Johnson hit Ryder Pennington for a 35-yard score for a 14-0 lead through one.

Glaub had a pair of 2-yard scoring runs and Edwards scored from six yards out in the second for a 35-0 lead, while Lincoln Gilcher scored from two yards out in the fourth. Will Nicolozakes made all six extra points.

Gilcher had 108 yards on 15 carries, Johnson made four catches for 50 yards and Edwards had 73 yards passing and 25 rushing for John Glenn, which owned a 301-59 advantage in total yards. Kole Robinson also grabbed two interceptions for the Muskie defense.

Athens 28, Philo 14: The Bulldogs used a 14-point fourth quarter to top the Electrics, as they totaled 420 yards to Philo's 156.

Talon Preston's 6-yard TD put Philo up 7-0 early, but Braedon Young scored from 1 yard out to tie it at 7 after one quarter. After Jack Lincicome ran in from two yards out to put Philo up again, Alex Pero's 2-yard scoring run helped Athens tie it at 14 at the break.

Neither team scored in the third, but Young found Leo Martin for a 39-yard score to put the Bulldogs ahead for good. Pero's 16-yard TD run with 1:38 remaining sealed the victory.

Philo missed on all eight of its passing attempts, while Preston ran for 112 yards on 27 carries. Talan Bailey added 32 yards on six rushes and Jack Lincicome had 12 yards on three carries for the Electric offense.

Young completed 12 of 15 passes for 171 yards and Pero had 33 carries for 225 yards for Athens.

West Muskingum 42, Lakewood 0: Carter Winland had three rushing touchdowns and Jake Anton found Carter Smith for a pair of TDs through the air in the Tornadoes' victory.

Anton found Smith on a 56-yard TD in the first quarter to start the scoring, while Winland scored from five yards out and Wes Houston added a 4-yard TD run in the second for a 21-0 lead, as Silas Kuhn made all six extra points.

Winland added scoring runs of 15 yards and 1 yard and Smith hauled in a 24-yard scoring strike from Anton in the third.

Winland finished with 128 yards on 17 carries, Anton was 13-of-19 for 197 yards and Smith caught five passes for 113 yards as West M outgained Lakewood 402-91.

Marietta 13, Morgan 12: Haiden Pauley threw a pair of touchdowns to Tavian Myers, but the Raiders failed to convert the two-point conversion twice in the loss to the Tigers.

Indian Creek 41, Cambridge 13: The Braves led 35-0 through three quarters before the Bobcats got on the board in the fourth.

AJ Lawrence threw a 24-yard TD pass to Marshall Laishley and Tate Sikora ran 46 yards for a score in the final quarter for Cambridge, which was outgained 351-197 and had only nine first downs to 18 by Creek.

Sikora had 72 yards on two carries, Lawrence was 2-of-4 for 39 yards and ran for 35 yards on four carries and Michael Micale went 3-of-9 for 26 yards to lead Cambridge.

Buckeye Trail 21, Caldwell 19: The Warriors led 13-0 at the half to grab a season-opening victory.

Garaway 56, River View 0: The Pirates shut out the Black Bears to open the season.
