The weekend brings a play by Pec Playhouse Theatre, Pec Thing and a Community Shred Day, along with fundraisers, live music and more to the Freeport area.

Paul Bronson Acoustic Music

What: Enjoy dinner, drinks and music.

When: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13

The Kitchen Witches

What: Isobel Lomax and Dolly Biddle are two “mature” cable-access cooking show hostesses who have hated each other for 30 years, ever since Larry Biddle dated one and married the other. When circumstances put them together on a TV show called The Kitchen Witches, the insults are flung harder than the food. Presented by Pec Playhouse Theatre. Runs through Sept. 22.

Pre Brew

What: Zealous will have Brewfest tickets available, snacks by Hilldale Deli, music by Fergusondlance, Kris Valkema and Jimmy Tornow, plus free beer.

When: 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: Zealous Art Studio & Tattoo, 653 W. Stephenson St., Freeport

Oktoberfest

What: This Oktoberfest event will feature German-inspired food including appetizers, entrees and dessert; Lena Brewing Co. Oktoberfest on draft; mini beer shots specials; and a photo booth.

When: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: The Rafters Restaurant, Catering and Events, 9426 Wagner Road, Lena

Rock the Block Party 2024

What: The Rock the Block Party is a community-wide family reunion, by the Stephenson County Health Department and FHN. This event is a celebration of families served by SCHD, offering a day filled with free activities and food, including a Hula Hoop Zoo, spelling games, painting and walking tacos. The Mosaico Cultural Dance Group will kick off the event by bringing the beauty of traditional Mexican dance to life. The BGC Nation dancers perform at 12:30 p.m.

When: 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: Stephenson County Health Department, 10 W. Linden St., Freeport

Third Annual Terrance “Cheeto” Haynes 3-on-3 tournament

What: All participants will receive a t-shirt. Winners of each division will receive a trophy. There will be food and other vendors in the parking lot. Enjoy the halftime show, music, guest speakers and more. There will be more than eight teams each division.

When: Boys & Girls Club of Freeport & Stephenson County, 511 S. Liberty Ave., Freeport

Where: 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Cost: Free but donations welcome for the Cheeto Foundation

Seventh Annual Tee Off On Crime

What: This annual golf event is to raise awareness for crime prevention and to honor the men and women in law enforcement who put their lives on the line for our safety every day. It features Sponsor A Cop, Bloody Mary bar, Golf Ball Launcher, Crime Scene Bunkers and the Wood Pellet Pizza Oven. If you can't play, become a sponsor or sponsor a cop and treat them to a day on the course. This is a Stateline Area Crimestoppers event.

When: 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: The Freeport Club, 1614 S. Park Blvd., Freeport

Cost: $125; Mulligan cards for $5 each

Community Shred Day

What: Secure your identity and shred your confidential documents. Limit 50 lbs. per customer.

When: 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: Citizens State Bank, 102 W. Main St., Lena

Cost: Free

Fish Boil

What: Your meal includes boiled cod, boiled potatoes, boiled onions, coleslaw and a dinner roll.

When: 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14

Where: Rock City Fire Protection District, 7600 N. Rock City Road, Rock City

Fall Pec Thing 2024

What: The semi-annual Pec Thing Antique & Flea Market features more than 500 vendors selling collectibles, vintage clothing, antique tools, quilts, retro home and lawn décor, jewelry, stamps, postcards, furniture, glassware, crafts, sports memorabilia, holiday décor, electronics, photography, woodworking, candles, plants, records and CDs, local honey and more. Rain or shine. There are more than 100,000 square feet of indoor merchandise and 40 acres of outdoor vendors. Food and beverages are available for purchase. Service animals welcome; no pets allowed.

When: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14 and Sunday, Sept. 15

Where: Winnebago County Fairgrounds, 500 W. First St., Pecatonica

Cost: $5 admission; free for age 12 and younger; early bird shopper option available

The Guthries

What: The Guthries will perform at the outdoor tiki-ish bar along the banks of the Pecatonica River. They play on a pontoon boat in front of the river. Seating is available under the wooden building by the bar or along the river up on the deck.

When: 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15

Where: Bobber’s Tap, 612 Bridge St., Winslow

Teen Tuesday! Not so Board Games

What: Come play some classic card and board games like Sorry, Trouble or Uno. Teens can also bring their own games to share with the group.

Death Defying Acts

What: William Pack takes you on a fantastical journey through the history of the circus, from Phil Astley's creation of the modern circus in 1768 to Dan Rice, "the most famous man you've never heard of," to the incredible feud between Barnum and the Ringling Brothers. Hear stories of triumph, disaster, and the grand adventure of the travelling circus. Experience the story of those who gave their lives to show and became legends in the process. No registration. Come enjoy a great storyteller, coffee and cookies. Chicago native William Pack is a magician, storyteller, and author.
