Los Padillas pool closed indefinitely

Jun. 13—The Los Padillas Aquatic Center in the South Valley is closed indefinitely for repairs, Bernalillo County staff announced Thursday.

In May, the county announced the pool's opening would be delayed until June 15 to repair a major pipeline. According to this week's announcement, during pipeline repairs, contractors discovered mechanical issues that needed to be repaired and inspected before the pool could open.

"We are currently working to resolve the situation," county spokesperson Austin Munn said. "Due to the complexity of these systems and mechanical components, we cannot state at this time, the exact cost, or the specific issue.

"Our goal is to get this aquatic facility up and running for our patrons as soon as possible and with the hope that this will occur this season."

In 2023, Los Padillas was only open for two months. The pool had to close early because a frequency drive had to be replaced, according to previous coverage.

The other three county pools, Rio Grande, South Valley and Paradise Hills, opened for regular hours at the start of the month. The Alameda spray pad is closed until August because of construction of a new pool.

The county pools are scheduled to close Sept. 1, the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the Bernalillo County pools webpage.
