Lucky lottery player wins $4.2 million prize in Washington. Where was the ticket sold?

A lottery player tried their luck on a game in Pierce County, Washington, and ended up winning $4.2 million.

The player bought a Lotto ticket during the Sept. 14 drawing at a Safeway in Puyallup, a spokesperson for Washington’s Lottery told McClatchy News by email Sept. 18.

They hit the jackpot after matching all six numbers: 5, 9, 16, 24, 38 and 44.

The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 6.99 million.

The lucky person claimed the winning ticket three days after the drawing, lottery officials said in an email.

Twenty players matched five numbers in the state, winning $1,000.

The last Lotto jackpot was hit June 29 when someone won $1.2 million.

Puyallup is about a 10-mile drive southeast from Tacoma.

How to play Lotto

A Lotto ticket costs $1 for two plays.

A player must select two sets of six numbers between 1 and 49. Numbers can be chosen at random using Quick Pick.

If a player matches six white balls, they hit the jackpot.

The jackpot starts at $1 million.

Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Pacific Time.
