Main Street in Milltown closing for roadwork. Here's the details

MILLTOWN – A milling and paving project will begin in the borough Friday.

"Recently, there have been numerous inquiries regarding the re-paving of Main Street," Mayor George Murray said in a letter to residents. "I am here to provide you with an update on the project timeline. We have carefully selected the start date to coincide with the end of the school year for Milltown Public Schools. Our objective is to complete the re-paving swiftly while minimizing inconvenience to our residents."

Starting at about 5:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, PSE&G contractors will commence milling and paving at the following locations:

  • Basketball Courts on Violet Terrace

  • Parking Stalls at Ford Avenue & North Brook Drive

  • Vanderbilt Avenue from Main Street to Dead End

  • E. Lakewood Avenue from Main Street to JFK Drive

  • Washington Avenue from Main Street to JFK Drive

  • Kuhlthau Avenue from Main Street to Dale Road

Milling at Main Street will begin at about 5:30 a.m. Monday, the mayor said.

During the project, Main Street will be closed from The Home Depot light through Riva Avenue to ensure the safety of workers and expedite project completion, he said.

Sections of Main Street will be intermittently opened as milling progresses.

We recommend planning alternative routes in advance to minimize travel disruptions, Murray said.

Contractors will work approximately 12-hour days. The project is expected to span five days, comprising two days of milling, two days of paving, and one day for repainting roadway lines as needed, he said.

Milling and paving activities are expected to end at 5 p.m., according PSE&G. No parking signs will be posted before work is scheduled to begin on each street.

The timeline is subject to weather conditions and may be extended accordingly, the mayor said.

"While this undertaking may cause temporary inconvenience, I want to reassure you that Milltown businesses will remain open throughout the project," Murray said.

Schedules may change. Residents may call the project hotline at 1-833-661-6400 or visit pseg.com/gaswork.
