Man fatally shot in Yonkers after an early Sunday dispute

A dispute between two men in Yonkers early Sunday ended with one of them fatally shot, police said.

The shooting occurred near 289 South Broadway around 4 a.m. Police who were nearby tried to render aid but the victim was pronounced dead of a gunshot wound to the chest at a hospital a short time later.

The gunman fled but was soon caught around the corner on Ludlow Street. He allegedly tossed the gun while he was running but it was recovered, police said.

Police have not yet publicly identified the victim or the alleged shooter. Details on charges were not immediately available but the suspect is expected to be arraigned in City Court today.

It was the fourth fatal shooting in Yonkers in 2023 and second since mid-August when Mayor Mike Spano touted figures showing Yonkers had the state's biggest drop in shootings with injuries over the first seven months of the year.
