'Many men': 50 Cent song fuels meme about Trump shooting

What is the "Many Men" meme? A song by 50 Cent about surviving attacks has long been a meme that signals toughness, resilience. But it is getting heavy use after the shooting of Donald Trump.

The song from 50 Cent's "Get Rich or Die Tryin” album brings attitude with the intro:

Many men wish death upon me

Blood in my eye, dawg, and I can't see

I'm tryin' to be what I'm destined to be

And (n—) tryin' to take my life away (C'mon)

Almost immediately after the Trump shooting on July 13, the Internet was putting the video footage of a defiant Donald Trump, blood on his face, to this song.

The rapper posted a Get Rich or Die Tryin’ cover edit on Saturday night featuring Trump’s face on his body.

Before that, he shared the new meme usage.

It was a busy week for the rapper and entrepreneur. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson took to Capitol Hill on Wednesday, leading a campaign aimed at increasing minority representation within the multi-billion dollar liquor industry.

The rapper has previously described the "nine painful moments" he has endured in his life, echoed in his song 9 Shots. The song recollects the infamous 2000 shooting that became an important part of Jackson's narrative, one where 50 Cent survived nine gunshot wounds, including one to the face.

"We only rap what we've been through," says "This Is New York" rapper ScarLip. "When we rapping about guns, when we rapping about killers, when we rapping about all of these type of things … this is the environment that we've been placed in."

Jackson, best known as a recording artist and for his successful liquor brand Sire Spirits, was joined by renowned civil rights attorney Ben Crump this week. Together, they met with lawmakers across the political spectrum, including members of the Congressional Black Caucus, to push for minority representation in the luxury spirits industry.

Jackson met with leaders from both political parties this week, including House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, and described the meetings as positive.

Last year, 50 Cent toured to mark the anniversary of his multiplatinum debut album, "Get Rich or Die Tryin'," released by Eminem's Shady Records.
