How many SEC teams have won the College World Series? Tennessee or Texas A&M look to be next

Traditionally considered a football and basketball conference, the SEC has become the premier conference in college baseball over the last decade.

And this year's NCAA baseball tournament displays just that: most teams selected to the field in the history of the NCAA baseball tournament field, tied for most teams in the super regional round, tied for most teams at the CWS in history and the third time in last four year's the CWS championship series will be two SEC teams.

It's a continuous trend in dominance by the SEC that was started in 2010 when South Carolina won its first of two back-to-back championships. Since then, eight of the last 13 national champions have come from the SEC— including each of the last five.

Now, No. 1 Tennessee and No. 3 Texas A&M will add to that list in an All-SEC showdown in the 2024 College World Series best-of-three championship series that starts Saturday.

Tennessee, which is looking to become the first No. 1 seed to win the CWS since Miami in 1999, is making its first appearance in the CWS championship series since finishing as runner-up in 1951. Meanwhile, Texas A&M is appearing in its first championship series in program history, another impressive feat in Jim Schlossnagle's turnaround of the Aggies program in the last three years.
