Matt Ryan Has Telling Admission On Falcons: NFL World Reacts

During a recent appearance on the Ryen Russillo podcast, new Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Ryan shared some thoughts on how his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons ended.

For the early part of the offseason, it looked like the Falcons planned on keeping Ryan for a 15th season. However, then the team began to earnestly pursue Deshaun Watson.

“When free agency starts to pick up and they start to look into what they want to do, I kind of got filled into the loop that they were going to look into Deshaun Watson,” Ryan said, via Pro Football Talk. “And then at that point, I said, OK, I understand. But I also need to look into what I need to look into. And if this doesn’t go down, find out if this is probably still the best fit for me.”

After some deliberation and research, Ryan and the Falcons settled on the Colts as the best fit for the former MVP. While he did say he thinks the situation “worked out perfectly,” Ryan added that he feels there is a “pretty good chance” he’d still be the quarterback in Atlanta if they never went after Watson.

Ryan’s candid comments have sparked plenty of reaction from media members and Atlanta fans.

Regardless of how his time with the Falcons ended, Ryan seems to have a good opportunity in front of him in Indianapolis. The Colts have a roster that is ready-made to win, but they have been lacking at quarterback.

Is Ryan the answer? We’ll have to see, but some of the early returns are good.

“You can tell he’s a leader and he’s been a leader for a long time,” Colts offensive lineman Danny Pinter said recently. “It’s natural for him. I think the guys definitely respond well to him right off the bat.”
