As the leaves start to turn and the air grows crisp, many people are eagerly embracing the start of the spooky season. However, this year’s Halloween hype has taken a surprising turn for McDonald’s: Fans are booing the new design of their highly anticipated Boo Buckets, ahead of their official release.

According to an Instagram post shared by @snackolater, this year’s lineup consists of four variations of a fluffy, yellow-eyed monster in blue, green, orange, and white.

The biggest difference this year is the lack of a lid. Instead, the buckets feature the golden McDonald's arches on the handles, a switch-up from last year's lids that matched the color of each respective bucket.

The original poster did note a disclaimer that these new buckets were released in another country, so there's still a chance that the design could be different for U.S. locations. Still, fans are scared—and not in the fun way—that this could be all McDonald's has to offer for this year's Boo Buckets.

Multiple users are particularly angry at the fact that this year's buckets may not have lids. “Yuck, downgrade. Also, can we get a real lid,” one comment complained.

Another user commented, "Skipping the lids for these is still wild."

"Why do they keep doing the fake lid?" someone echoed.

Others have taken issue with the design all together. "Worst McDonald's bucket character design ever," a comment lamented.

One person also said, "No lids, design not cute. Money, time and space saved 👏"

"They don’t even look like Halloween buckets 😐" said another user.

"I think you all misunderstood why we liked the boo buckets lol," said the top comment, which sits at 564 likes. "We like the nostalgia."
