Memphis weekend weather: What to know about rain chances during Southern Heritage Classic

While the worst of the rain and wind brought by Francine is behind us in the Memphis area, things haven't totally cleared up yet.

The National Weather Service Memphis office forecast scattered showers and thunderstorms for Saturday with high temperatures possibly reaching the high 70s and possibly low 80s. The weather agency predicts more of the same on Sunday.

So if you plan to enjoy weekend activities like the Southern Heritage Classic or Cooper Young Festival, you should probably pack a rain jacket or umbrella and a willingness to get a little wet.

Will it rain during the Southern Heritage Classic?

Unfortunately, the odds are pretty high. The NWS forecast puts the chance of rain at 70% during the day Saturday with a chance of thunderstorms. The chance of rain Saturday night is about 40% but some scattered storms are still anticipated.

On Sunday, the NWS predicts that skies will be mostly cloudy with "a chance of showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then showers with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon."

There's about an 80% chance of rain throughout the day Sunday and Sunday night a 50% chance of precipitation, still with the possibility of thunderstorms.
