Mets make their September roster decisions: See who they added

The Mets have made their decisions about who they will add as rosters expanded to 28 players on Sunday.

The team announced that they have recalled left-handed reliever Alex Young and selected infielder Pablo Reyes from Triple-A Syracuse.

Alex Young will bolster the Mets bullpen with a second left-handed reliever alongside Danny Young while Reyes offers another versatile option in the infield.

The Mets have put themselves in a position to push for a playoff spot. Following Saturday's second straight win over the White Sox, the Mets improved to 72-64 and two games back of the final National League wild card spot. They are four games behind both the Padres and Diamondbacks for the top two wild card spots.

Here is what to know about the two new pieces to the Mets' roster:

Alex Young, LHP

On July 17, the Mets claimed Alex Young off waivers from the Giants. He was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse six days later.

Alex Young, who began the season with the Reds, has allowed one earned run in nine innings while striking out eight and allowing eight hits and three walks.

He was equally effective across three Triple-A stops this season, posting a 3-0 record with a 2.81 ERA,1.03 WHIP and 28 strikeouts in 32 innings.

The 30-year-old lefty does not overpower, with a four-seam fastball and sinker in the high-80s, but adds in a strong changeup and curveball to keep hitters off-balance.

Pablo Reyes, INF

The 30-year-old infielder has played 233 games across six major-league seasons, including stops with the Pirates, Brewers and Red Sox. He was traded to the Mets for cash on May 25.

In 21 games this season with the Red Sox earlier this season, Reyes slashed .183/.234/.217 with two doubles, five RBI and four runs scored. In 58 games at Triple-A Syracuse, Reyes was batting .283 with 10 home runs, 35 RBI, 38 runs and 10 stolen bases.

More importantly, Reyes provides a dependable glove across the infield. He's spent time at second and third base, shortstop and right field at points this season.
