New Mexico governor’s pitch to lure doctors away from Texas is one big miss | Opinion

The better state for doctors

Nice try, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham, but respectfully, no thank you.

Your ad campaign to lure Texas physicians and health care workers to your state was a creative maneuver, but it misses a few key points.

There are many reasons record numbers of physicians flock here year after year to practice medicine. Texas doesn’t need to advertise its strengths.

Our medical liability laws help ensure good physicians caring for Texans can practice without constant fear of frivolous lawsuits ruining their careers.

Second, our state recognizes patients deserve physician-led care. And increasing numbers of quality medical schools and residency programs provide outstanding educational opportunities for aspiring physicians.

Our state must address the confusion and controversy over some laws governing health care delivery. The Texas Medical Association will continue working with state leaders to address those for Texas patients and their physicians.

So, again, “Thanks but no thanks.”

Here’s a contrast from ‘dumb’

I wonder where Ryan Rusak got his journalistic credentials. In his July 28 commentary, “Dems’ 3 dumb arguments so far about Trump, Harris, Biden,” (4C) he doesn’t mention the smart arguments that Democrats are really talking about, such as the question that if Donald Trump was such a great president, why was he not reelected? In fact, he is a convicted felon.

If Vice President Kamala Harris is so unlikable, why are her endorsements and contributions going through the roof?

Joe Biden has been a great president. Look at the respect shown for him and our country by leaders around the globe. We’ve had the best recovery from COVID-19 of any country.

Thanks for making the contrast between “dumb” and smart very clear.

Democracy? Not to my eyes

What we recently witnessed among Democrats was a palace coup. The ruling nobility knew their king couldn’t beat Donald Trump, so they set him up to fail early enough to pressure, cajole and threaten him to remove the crown himself.

Their new presumptive queen never earned a single nominating delegate, having dropped out of the 2020 primaries for being so unpopular.

So, is the Democratic Party really the bastion of democracy it claims to be?

Labs’ shooting needs justice

The shooting of two Labrador retrievers by a security guard on the property of Eagle Mountain International Church was completely unnecessary and needs to be fully investigated and charges brought. (Aug. 1, 1A, “Two lost dogs fatally shot on church property, family says”) The security guard should be fired.

We all love our dogs and expect people to help if they escape our property. The dogs had collars and were obviously pets, but this security guard apparently decided to shoot first and ask questions later.

I feel horrible for the owners. Their only hope is that there will be some sort of justice and lesson learned from the loss of their family members.

Why I can’t vote for Harris

Vice President Kamala Harris is the first recent presidential candidate not selected by voters in his or her party. She was selected by a group of party electors chosen for another candidate who had quit. Harris was not on that ballot.

So much for free elections. I cannot vote for this appointee.
