The eight-episode series, which was created and executive produced by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, landed on Netflix on January 4. The cast also featured Highdee Kuan and Joon Lee.

Despite being described by VarietyTV critic Aramide Tinubu as "a thrilling, brilliant dramedy about familial obligations, buried skeletons and the bonds that can never be broken", the show was ultimately cancelled just two months after its release.

Tinubu described Yeoh's performance as "cutthroat and commanding", while also praising her TV sons: "Though it provides Yeoh a showcase that she’s more than earned, the series also introduces Chien and Li as two mega talents who will undoubtedly continue to grace our screens."

Chien took to Instagram to express his gratitude and sadness at the news of the cancellation, sharing an image of he and his colleagues and a heartfelt caption.

"To all the fans of The Brothers Sun, Thank you for riding with us on this labor of love. It will take some time to digest this news, but I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support for the show. Thank you for every post, tweet, edit, interaction, etc. It fills me with so much joy knowing that the show resonated with so many people. Your love made all of our collective work, sacrifices, and heartache, worth it," the caption read.

Thanking the cast, crew and viewers, Chien continued: "Thank you all for your love. Without you, this wouldn’t mean nearly as much as it does. I gave everything I had to this show, and I can’t wait to do the same in the next project, whatever, whenever it may be — I promise I will give it my all."

The Brothers Sun is out now on Netflix.
