Michigan man given 5 year sentence for 2023 South Side fatal shooting

A Michigan man who fatally shot a man on the South Side in 2023 will spend five years in prison.

Redera Davis, 34, of Lansing, Michigan, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Thursday. Judge Julie Lynch ordered Davis to serve five to seven and a half years in prison.

Aaron Washington, 25, died in the shooting that happened at about 2:35 a.m. March 13, 2023, in the 2200 block of Winslow Drive, on the city's South Side. He suffered several gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Police arrested Davis in Michigan and brought him back to Ohio to face charges.

As part of a plea deal, charges of murder and having weapons under disability were dismissed.
