Mission: Impossible 7 sets a new series record at the box office
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One has managed to set a new record for the action franchise.
The seventh and longest chapter in the saga of Tom Cruise's IMF agent Ethan Hunt has broken a franchise record by grossing $7 million during its preview screenings on Tuesday (July 11), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This beats out the previous record of $6 million set by the previous film in the series, Mission: Impossible – Fallout, in 2018.

It's certainly a good start for Ethan Hunt's seventh outing, which is projected to open to a franchise-best of $90 million in North America, beating Fallout's current record of $61 million.
The film has also managed to impress critics and currently stands at an impressive 96% fresh on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, falling just behind Fallout's franchise-high of 97%.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Dead Reckoning Part One follows Ethan and the IMF team as they attempt to track down a new weapon that threatens all of humanity if it falls into the wrong hands.

Rebecca Ferguson, who reprises her role as Ilsa Faust, caught up with Digital Spy ahead of the film's release and praised Cruise for his drive to create strong characters.
"Seeing Tom and [McQuarrie] on set and how they speak – because we don't have scripts, I can see how their brains work together [as] they talk about character," she said.
"We talk about action a lot, we talk about needing the stunts and then we build the story around it, but we don't talk a lot about how driven Tom is to create character and the reason why and emotion."
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is out now in cinemas.
