Morris/Sussex softball players to watch entering the 2024 season

Softball season is around the corner and it's time to spotlight some of the players who will help define the 2024 season in Morris and Sussex counties.

Whether they're replacing departed seniors or taking another step towards a breakout, here are some of the top Morris/Sussex softball players to watch this spring.

Amanda Aromin

Parsippany Hills sophomore first baseman

Only graduating one senior has left the Vikings with a lot of returning talent from a 12-12 season. Aromin had 22 hits, second on the team, as a freshman and will gain leadership roles alongside a large senior class this season. Aromin and the rest of the Vikings are hoping for their first state playoff win in more than 15 years.

Daniella Biggio

Montville junior pitcher

Biggio came on strong last spring, tossing 106 strikeouts in 70 innings while batting .360 at the plate. With Caitlin Olensky off to the University of Nebraska, Biggio is now the Mustangs' bonafide ace and already has a case as one of Morris County's best in the circle.

Rory Curran

Mountain Lakes senior catcher

It's been tough sledding for the Lakers, who head into 2024 with new faces in the starting lineup after losing many seniors to graduation. Curran is one of the returning starters, leading the Lakers in RBIs and batting .443 last spring. Curran will also play a role in the development of junior pitcher Madi Mirz as the ace for Mountain Lakes.

Rebecca Dasti

Randolph junior infielder

The Rams have lost a great deal of talent to graduation with 102 of the team's hits from last season coming from outgoing seniors. Autumn Liebhauser remains one of the most talented players in the county, but look for Dasti to get more run-scoring opportunities at the plate in 2024. Dasti batted .267, drove in 13 runs and scored 19 times as a sophomore.

Bella Deleon

Newton sophomore shortstop/outfielder

Following a 22-hit freshman season, Deleon is back for Newton in her sophomore season that sees much of their offensive production from a year ago remain in tact. Deleon swings the bat well, but also works herself on base and stole 11 bases last spring.

Sofia Reisinger

Morris Catholic sophomore pitcher

Hannah Streicher and Carly Mockenhaupt have both graduated, making Reisinger the lone returning pitcher for the Crusaders in 2024. Reisinger was brought along slowly as a freshman, but now will assume duties as the ace for the defending Morris County Tournament and North, Non-Public B sectional champions.

Jessica Sperling

Morristown Beard senior shortstop

Sperling is among eight returning starters for a Crimson team that were co-champions in the NJAC Independence last season and won 11 games. Sperling was the leading hit getter at Morristown Beard last spring and is closing in on 100 career hits. With many talented middle infielders in the area, Sperling is underrated at a strong position across the conference.

Callie Stevenson

Lenape Valley junior outfielder

Stevenson leads all returning Patriots in hits from last season with 28. After losing two of the top three hitters in last year's lineup to graduation, Stevenson is part of the returning offense that will be looking to improve inside the NJAC Freedom division.

Tori Wehmeyer

West Morris sophomore third baseman

The strong bat that Megan McNally swung for the Wolfpack last spring (.571 average, 21 RBIs, 47 runs scored) helped much of the rest of the lineup, including Wehmeyer. With graduation removing some of those power hitters from the lineup, expect Wehmeyer to gain those run-scoring chances. Wehmeyer drove in 32 as a freshman while batting .438 and slugging 10 extra-base hits.
