Nashville area Large Class boys basketball rankings: Why Brentwood Academy returns to No. 1

Most of Tennessee's high school boys basketball teams prepare for this week's district tournaments while a small few wrap up regular-season games early this week.

Here is a look at the latest Nashville area Large Class high school boys basketball rankings. The Large Class consists of schools in Class 3A, 4A and Division II-AA.

1. Brentwood Academy (21-6) – Brentwood Academy has won seven straight since that two-point loss to MBA on Jan. 16 and moves back into the top spot in the Large Class rankings. Tyler Tanner had 25 points and George MacIntyre finished with 14 in regular-season finale win over Lipscomb Academy, 63-45, last Friday.  Last week's ranking: No. 2.

2. Siegel (23-3) – Blackman snapped the Stars' win streak that ended at 22 games. The Blaze lost to Siegel two weeks ago, 56-52, but dominated last Friday's game 61-45. Siegel's Carter Webb had 27 points, including 20 in the second half, in the loss. Last week's ranking: No. 1.

3. Hillsboro (19-3) – Hillsboro picked up back-to-back wins against Antioch last week. Ty Fisher led The Burros with 21 points in Tuesday's win over Antioch, and Arnez Anderson had 22 in Thursday's win. Last week's ranking: No. 3.

4. Pope John Paul II (23-4) – A high-scoring game ended in a loss for Pope John Paul II on Monday against Lipscomb Academy. But the Knights recovered with wins against Father Ryan and Ensworth to salvage the week. Last week's ranking: No. 4.

5. Cookeville (24-3) – Cookeville ended the regular season with three wins last week against Lebanon, Smyrna and Stewarts Creek. The Cavs capture the regular season District 7-4A with a perfect 10-0 record. Last week's ranking: No. 5.

6. Independence (22-6) – Independence enters the week on a six-game win streak. Indy beat Ravenwood by 12 last Monday and followed with consecutive wins against Summit by a combined total of 62 points. Last week's ranking: No. 6.

7. Upperman (23-4) – Upperman enters the District 7-3A tournament on a 12-game win streak. Ty Cobb had 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals in a 47-35 win over White County last Monday. Last week's ranking: No. 7.

8. Centennial (17-9) – Centennial has won seven of its last eight games, including splitting a pair of games against Franklin last week. Daniel Patton had a combined 27 points in the two games against Franklin while Dominic Reed had 19 in Friday's win over the Admirals. Last week's ranking: Not ranked.

9. Beech (22-6) – The Bucs' 12-point loss to Hendersonville last Tuesday was followed by a 12-point win over the Commandos last Thursday and a win over Mt. Juliet last Friday as Beech wrapped up the District 12-4A regular season title. Last week's ranking: No. 9.

10. Franklin (18-7) – Franklin has had a rollercoaster ride the past two weeks, with a 3-3 record. Last week's ranking: No. 8.
