Nashville grand jury indicts Tin Roof security guard after man beaten to death

A Davidson County grand jury indicted a Nashville security guard after a bar patron was beaten to death earlier this year.

Austin Turner, 26, died in March after he got into a fight Feb. 18 with security guard Richard Cornelius, 36, at Tin Roof on Demonbreun Street. Turner was denied entry to the bar and an altercation broke out, police said.

Investigators on the case said Cornelius hit Turner and caused him to fall to the ground unconscious. Turner was hospitalized for weeks before he died.

A medical examiner determined that Turner died as a result of homicide by blunt force trauma to the head.

Cornelius was initially charged with aggravated assault in connection with the case. A grand jury issued an indictment on a charge of aggravated assault resulting in death, according to court records filed earlier this month.
