NBC's Mike Tirico: 'Hip-drop tackle' by Bengals' Logan Wilson injured Ravens' Mark Andrews

NBC play-by-play broadcaster Mike Tirico discussed the injuries Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews suffered last season against the Cincinnati Bengals, and referred to the tackle Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson made of Andrews on that play as a "hip-drop tackle."

"(Andrews') injury came as the result of one of those hip-drop tackles that the league has worked to try to get out of the game, and it's now a penalty," Tirico said during the broadcast of Thursday's season-opening game between the Ravens and Chiefs in Kansas City.

When Andrews played in the Ravens-Chiefs AFC title game in January for the first time since his Week 11 injury against the Bengals, CBS play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz also referred to the tackle Wilson made of Andrews with the controversial "hip-drop" label attached.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh criticized Wilson's tackle. ESPN's Bart Scott called it a "dirty style of tackling." Bengals head coach Zac Taylor defended Wilson, and called the criticism Wilson's tackling "completely reckless."

Andrews told the Ravens' website he doesn't blame Wilson for his injury.
