Netflix confirms Twilight animated series is in development
Netflix has announced a new animated series inspired by sparkly vampire saga Twilight is currently in development.
The new instalment in the franchise comes 12 years after the star-crossed romance between Bella and Edward culminated in final movie Breaking Dawn Part 2.
Titled Midnight Sun, the animated show will retell Bella and Edward's story from his perspective and is an adaptation of the 2020 book of the same name by Twilight author Stephenie Meyer.
The big news was confirmed via Netflix's Twitter/X today (September 4).

Meyer will be on board as executive producer on the new series together with her producing partner Meghan Hibbett. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment, and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey for Picturestart are also executive producing.
Midnight Sun the TV series will be written by Sinead Daly, whose writing credits include The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tell Me Lies, Raised by Wolves and The Get Down. She will also serve as executive producer.
Last year, it was revealed the first film in the multi-billion franchise almost looked completely different, as we nearly saw a totally different Edward.
Twilight starred Robert Pattinson as Edward and Kristen Stewart as Bella, though director Catherine Hardwicke explained not everyone was immediately sold on Pattinson in the role of the handsome vampire.

After meeting with Harwdicke, Pattinson — who she described as having "black bangs" and being "out of shape" — went to audition with distributor Summit Entertainment, and the execs shared their doubts with the filmmaker.
"They called me back and go, 'Do you think you can make this guy look good?'" Hardwicke recalled on the Watchalong podcast to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the movie. "I said, 'Yeah, I do. Did you see his cheekbones? We're doing a makeover on the hair and everything and he's going to start working out and he's going to be gorgeous.'"
With some convincing, Pattinson ultimately landed the role — and the rest of cinematic vampire stories is history.
Midnight Sun will stream on Netflix.
