Surprise PD says deadly shooting was a murder-suicide

SURPRISE, Ariz. - Two men are dead following a shooting early Monday morning in Surprise, and police believe it was a murder-suicide.

Officers responded to a business near Loop 303 and Bell Road at around 5 a.m. on Sept. 23 for reports of a shooting.

Once at the scene, officers found two men in a parking lot with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

"Investigators have identified the victim as 43-year-old Daniel Roman, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The suspect, identified as 49-year-old Lucas Izzo, died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head," Surprise Police said.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from Roman dating Izzo's ex-wife.

"IIzzo, without provocation, fired multiple rounds, striking Roman, before turning the gun on himself," police said.
