Absentee and early voting begins Tuesday, Oct. 8

CHEYENNE — Laramie County is preparing for the upcoming General Election, with early voting set to start Tuesday, Oct. 8. County Clerk Debra Lee has announced that early voting and absentee ballot options will be available for the 28-day period leading up to the election, which concludes Nov. 4. This year, voters have fewer early voting days due to a new law reducing the early voting period from 45 days to 28.

The early voting site will be located in the atrium of the Laramie County Governmental Complex, 309 W. 20th St. in Cheyenne. Voting hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding county holidays. To access the polling site, voters should use the Carey Avenue entrance. All voters are required to present a government-issued ID, with a Wyoming driver’s license being the preferred form of identification.

The Clerk’s office is also offering three weekend satellite voting options. On Saturday, Oct. 12, voters can cast their ballots at two locations: the Burns Plex at 327 S. Main St. from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the Albin Community Center at 430 5th Ave. from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, a Sunday voting option will be available Oct. 20 at the Laramie County Library’s Cottonwood Room, located at 2200 Pioneer Ave., from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

To be eligible to register to vote in the election, individuals must be U.S. citizens, residents of Laramie County, and at least 18 years old by Election Day. Voters must not have been convicted of a felony unless their civil or voting rights have been restored, and they must not have been adjudicated mentally incompetent. Individuals registering without a valid Wyoming driver’s license will be required to provide the last four digits of their Social Security number. Further details on acceptable identification for voter registration can be found on the Laramie County Clerk’s election page.

Early voters in Wyoming must bring a valid form of identification. Acceptable forms of ID include a Wyoming driver’s license, a state-issued ID, student IDs from the University of Wyoming or a Wyoming community college, a valid Wyoming concealed firearm permit, IDs from other U.S. states, a valid U.S. passport, military ID, tribal ID, or a Medicare or Medicaid card. For individuals who do not possess any of these documents, the Wyoming Department of Transportation’s Driver’s Services can provide a free identification card specifically for voting purposes. For assistance, voters may contact Driver’s Services at 307-777-3835.

Absentee voting is another option for those who may be unable to vote in person during the early voting period or on Election Day. Absentee ballots can be requested by contacting the Laramie County Clerk’s office well in advance to ensure ample time for both the mailing and return of the ballot. Voters must return their absentee ballots by 7 p.m. on Election Day. To request an absentee ballot, voters can call the election office at 307-633-4242 or email election@laramiecountywy.gov. Be sure to include “Absentee” in the subject line, along with your full name as it appears on the voter registration list, date of birth, residential address, mailing address and contact information.
