Alcohol, speed lead to fatal wreck

Jul. 13—Two people were killed Friday night after crashing through a fence and striking Bowie Middle School in a speed and alcohol-related event.

According to the Odessa Police Department, officers learned of the crash at 22nd and Golder around 11:30 p.m. Investigators determined that a 2018 Nissan Altima was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on West 22nd Street when the driver lost control and the car hit a street sign and the north fence of the middle school. The car continued through the fence, hit the west side of the school and came to rest.

The driver and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation continues.
