Soccer star Alex Morgan is expanding her family.

On Sept. 5, Morgan announced she's retiring from soccer and is pregnant with baby No. 2. Morgan shares her 4-year-old daughter, Charlie, with her husband, former soccer star Servando Carrasco.

“I’m going to get to the point quickly. I’m retiring and I have so much clarity about this decision and am so happy to be able to finally tell you,” Morgan, 35, says in a video she posted to social media. “It has been a long time coming and this decision wasn’t easy. But at the beginning of 2024, I felt in my heart and soul that this was the last season that I would play soccer.”

“This is also not the retirement video I expected when I initially thought I was going to do this because Charlie is going to be a big sister,” Morgan later adds. “I am pregnant, and as unexpected as this came, we are so overjoyed. To me, family means everything.”

Morgan and Carrasco started dating during their freshman year in college at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2013, the pair took their relationship a step further when they got engaged. Then, in 2014, the couple got married in a wedding in Santa Barbara, California.

Now, with another child on the way, Carrasco and Morgan are gearing up for their new lives as a family of four.

Servando Carrasco met Alex Morgan when he was a teenager

Carrasco recalled how he met Morgan in a 2019 interview with The Athletic, saying they crossed paths when they both attended the University of California, Berkeley.

"I’ve known Alex since I was 18. We both played soccer at Cal and started dating freshman year," he said. "We’ve been together ever since."

When asked what her game was like at the time, he said he instantly noticed how gifted she was.

"Her speed on the soccer field is the first thing that caught my attention, along with the massive knee brace she was wearing because she just had surgery on her ACL like six months before that. To come back from an ACL in six months is pretty incredible, but that’s Alex," he said. "She was pretty raw and she had this huge screechy brace on, but she could still run pretty damn quick."

Carrasco, 36, and his wife share a love for soccer. In 2011, Carrasco was selected at No. 27 overall in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft. The first MLS team he played for was the Seattle Sounders FC. He also played for teams including Sporting Kansas City and the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Servando Carrasco is supportive of his wife's career

While speaking with The Athletic, Carrasco said he always gets nervous when watching Morgan play soccer.

"You want them to do so friggin well," he said.

One way he said he shakes his nerves is by believing in his wife and being supportive of her career.

"But once she’s on the field, there’s really nothing I can do except just be there for her and support her in any way that I can," he said. "But, yeah, it is pretty nerve-racking when you’re not able to help. That’s just part of loving someone."

Servando Carrasco proposed to Alex Morgan during a fireworks show

Carrasco and Morgan got engaged in December 2013. In an interview with The Knot, Morgan recalled how her beau popped the question in Manhattan Beach, California, during an annual fireworks show.

“He was planning the proposal for that night and asked me to stand up, and then asked me to marry him,” she said. “We rode our beach cruisers to my dad’s house to celebrate and have champagne with our family and friends. We had spoken about what kind of engagement ring I wanted before the proposal, but I wasn’t really set on a specific style. He did have it custom-designed, though.”

The pair later got married on New Year's Eve in 2014. The ceremony, which took place in Santa Barbara, California, was attended by all their loved ones.

“To be surrounded by our family and friends tonight in such a beautiful location, and on New Year’s Eve to boot, has just been magical,” Morgan told People at the time.

On May 7, 2020, Carrasco and Morgan welcomed their daughter, Charlie, into the world.

"She made us wait longer than expected, but I should have known she would do it her way and her way only," Morgan said on Instagram while calling Charlie her "super moon baby."

In a separate post, Carrasco shared a close-up picture of Charlie's face and said her birth was the "best day of my life."

"We love you so much baby girl. Alex you’re such a warrior," he said.
