Ann Rasmusen continues to be one of the premier bowlers in St. George women's bowling circles. And she proved it again in compelling fashion by throwing the first 700 series by a woman in the 2021-22 season.

Competing in league play at Sunset Lanes, she delivered an electrifying performance with 24 strikes during standout games of 248, 243 and 233 for a stellar 724 series.

Her scoring exploits over the years has been well chronicled in this column beginning with the 2005-06 season.

In one of her first, she was featured when she became the first woman to bowl a 300 game in St. George on March 15, 2008.

Another was for a 299 game on September 9, 2009 when she joined Annette Chugg and Carol Jones as the only three women with a 299 game at the time.

And she also received gobs of ink when she rolled the highest-ever series by a woman with a 741 on March 14, 2013. Amazingly, to this day, her 741 has only been topped by Gayla Ruesch (760), Autumn Telford (749) and Luann Huchings (746).

Her resume between St. George and Salt Lake city includes the aforementioned 300, a pair of 299's, a 290, one Andy Varipapa 300, a career-high 776 series, a string of 20 straight strikes, and a career-high 200 average.

She's bowled in multiple Pro-Am Tournaments in Las Vegas where she's bowled with the likes of Norm Duke, Pete Weber and Walter Ray Williams.

Rasmusen played softball, basketball and volleyball in high school, and spent two of her elementary school years living in Taiwan where her dad was employed by the Department of Defense.

In other action, highlighted by 21 strikes, Hailey Bundy demonstrated again the quantum leaps made in her game with a 631 series on games of 235, 212 and 184. Her hard work on improving her game is paying dividends, and once she becomes more consistent in bringing her spare ball to the party, look out!

And fueled by a 247, Ashley Thomas (602) also hit 600 territory, Lisa Moss (592-216) narrowly missed a 600, and Anne Brosier (583-229) delivered a first-rate outing.

Colleen Bedford (550) merits ink for a strong outing, and Nancy Shaffer (545-191) is an octogenarian who did a great job with her best scores in several years.

Meanwhile, Bobi Oliver (535), Indianna Polatis (533, Kara Kopf (533) and Bonnie Kabey (517) collectively, mowed down 2,118 pins.

In single game play, P.J. Redhouse led the scoring action with a six-bagger in a 247 gem, Dawn Thomas and Susan Hill each registered a 225, Dianne Shepherd smacked a 209, and Karen Foss peppered the lanes with an impressive clean 203.

In men's play, Brendan Thomas (743-267) set the scoring pace with another super outing. By the way, with a 230 average, he has a great shot at a two-peat for the high-average title this season.

Bill Stauffer (741-249, 247, 245) was an absolute pillar of consistency in a superb bowling exhibition, and Tony Zaccehus put on a clinic with standout scores en route to averaging an eye-popping 238 between league play at Sunset (729-257) and Dixie Bowl (702-279).

In other action, Dalton Smith ((715-267) continued a blistering scoring pace with his seventh consecutive 700-plus series, and fueled by a 279, Ron Hanson (713) smoked Sunset, while Ken Schloman (600-226) also joined the scoring feast.

In big game action, Ron Floreani blasted a 278, Joseph Graham popped a 275 gem, Jeff Anderson rolled a 268, and David Lee uncorked a 265 gem.

Phil San Antonio, Stanford Benally, Jim Fowler, and Jim Milner tallied games of 248, 233, 219 and 202, respectively.
