Bellefonte area is about to get its first Starbucks location. Here’s what we know

Starbucks, the popular coffeehouse chain, is finally venturing outside of State College — and plans to open a new location in the Bellefonte area by mid-November.

A Starbucks kiosk is set to open inside the Bellefonte area Weis Markets (170 Buckaroo Lane), which is technically within the boundaries of Spring Township. The new location, the first in Centre County outside the State College area, will also offer bakery items and bean/ground coffees in addition to the usual hot and cold drinks.

“It’s time for Bellefonte to have its own Starbucks,” Weis Markets spokesman Dennis Curtin told the CDT in an email. “We believe there is untapped local demand for its products. We’re also strong believers in giving our customers more choices and options that work for them.”

Construction began earlier this week, although crews were not working during shopping hours.

The kiosk will be located just inside the entrance closest to the beer/wine section, near the first checkout lane. Although there will be no chairs or tables in the immediate area, Weis Markets has a cafe near the beer/wine section that already contains seats for customers.

Centre County currently boasts seven Starbucks locations, all of which have State College addresses and aren’t far from the Penn State campus. Only two of those locations are standalone shops; the others are located within two Target stores, a Giant Supermarket, Penn State’s HUB-Robeson Center and the Paterno Library.

Weis Markets in Spring Township is open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day. It wasn’t immediately known if Starbucks’ hours would reflect the same timing.

Starbucks did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
