Body fished out of lake in upstate NY identified as 47-year-old man who drove car into the water

New York State troopers have identified a body fished out of an upstate lake as that of a 47-year-old man who drove his car into the water on Monday, authorities said.

Kurmar Budhu, of the Orange County village of Florida, was pulled out of Glenmere Lake one day after he allegedly drove his 2003 Toyota SUV into the water, state police said Tuesday.

Police responded to the scene around 1:30 pm Monday on reports of a car in the water.

The department’s Underwater Recovery Team, aided by the Florida village dive team, and the Florida, Warwick and Greenwood Lake police departments, launched a search after finding the vehicle.

The search later recovered Budhu’s body.

State police have not released more details of the incident, which remains under investigation.

Glenmere Lake, which covers just over 300 acres, is a popular recreation and fishing spot near Florida, the state Department of Environmental Conservation said.
