Update: Boise Fire, BLM respond to 36-acre grass fire in Foothills, nearly under control

Update Saturday, June 22, 2024: The Boise Fire Department and Bureau of Land Management have nearly controlled a grass fire in the Boise Foothills near North Collister Drive on Polecat Gulch that spread to 36 acres, BLM announced in a social media post on Saturday.

Crews stopped the fire’s forward progress and successfully set up containment lines on Friday night and are working to mop up remaining hot spots, with the Boise Fire and the BLM expecting to have full control at 6 p.m Saturday, according to BLM. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The crews worked to clear trails near Polecat Gulch and advised residents to leave and avoid the area, Boise Fire wrote on social media.

BLM sent four engines, one bulldozer, three overhead firefighters, one investigator and one air attack plane to the scene, according to its post.

The fire initially threatened a house and barn near Collister Drive. Fire crews that were first to arrive successfully protected the buildings, and no other structures were threatened as of 6 p.m. Friday, BLM said.
