Carbondale man pleads guilty to possessing child sexual abuse materials

Sep. 23—WILKES-BARRE — A man from Carbondale charged in March with possessing child sexual abuse materials pleaded guilty in Luzerne County Court on Monday.

Shawn Kenneth Sullenberger, 45, of Mill Street, was arrested by Luzerne County detectives while investigating three cyber tips generated from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The cyber tips involved videos linked to a cellular phone registered to Sullenberger, according to court records.

When Sullenberger was arrested in March, he was residing on Main Street in White Haven.

During an interview with detectives, Sullenberger claimed he once had an addiction to illicit drugs and traded the addiction to viewing child sexual abuse materials, court records say.

Court records say Sullenberger claimed he had viewed child sexual abuse materials for seven years.

Sullenberger pleaded guilty to eight counts of possession of child pornography before Judge David W. Lupas.

Sullenberger remains free on bail and is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 19.
