A weekend bus service aimed at improving a city park's connectivity is taking its last rides.

Nene Park Trust launched Your Community Greenbus in Peterborough during the school summer holidays on 20 July after it received funding from the National Heritage Lottery Fund.

Bus company Vectare ran the 30-seat service from Herald Way in Gunthorpe to Ferry Meadows' main car park, with stops in Paston, New England and Millfield.

The trust said it has had “positive” interactions with the community regarding the service which ends this Sunday.

There is no current regular bus company route that takes travellers to the park, which has made it hard for people who relied on public transport to access the area.

Nene Park Trust said the aim of the project was to make the park more accessible for those living on the other side of Peterborough and to offer a sustainable travel option for all.

It added that the shuttle would be closely evaluated throughout the summer, to see if a permanent bus service travelling to the park would be a viable option.
