Dave Grohl has announced the birth of his fourth child with a woman “outside of” his marriage.

The Foo Fighters founder and former Nirvana drummer has three older daughters. Over the years, he's spoken about being a father to Violet Maye, Harper Willow and Ophelia Saint, whom he shares with his wife of 21 years, Jordyn Blum.

In a 2021 appearance on TODAY, the drummer opened up about balancing his personal life and career as a musician who is often on the road.

“My kids inspire me and it’s that love, that then when I go on the road, it makes me want to play music even more,” he said at the time.

Violet Maye, born in 2006

Violet is Grohl and Blum's eldest child and a singer. In 2018, she appeared on stage beside her father to perform a cover of "When We Were Young" by Adele.

In his interview with TODAY, Grohl described his bond with Violet as being close from the start.

“It feels weird to sit there talking to someone’s stomach and saying, like, ‘Hi! I can’t wait to meet you,’” Grohl recalled, describing how he hoped Violet would recognize his voice from the moment she was born.

“I got right close to her face, and I said, ‘Hey, Violet, it’s me.’ And she stopped screaming,” he said. “We’ve been like that ever since,” he said.

Grohl boasted about his daughter's music ability in a 2021 interview with the “SmartLess” podcast.

“My daughter Violet, who’s 15, she is the most talented musician that this family has ever known,” he said. “She has perfect pitch, and she has an incredible memory, musical memory. She can pick up an instrument and learn it in, like, a week. She’s a total badass.”

Harper Willow, born in 2009

When Grohl was 40 and Blum was 32, the couple welcomed their second eldest, Harper.

According to a statement at the time, Harper was named after Grohl’s great uncle Harper Bonebrake and was “7 lbs. 8 oz., 20 inches long and loud as hell.”

In October 2021, Grohl hinted at Harper's musical interests while on "The Graham Norton Show." During the interview, the drummer recalled how he'd hosted Paul McCartney at his home and how the night ended with the musician giving Harper a piano lesson.

“[Harper had] never taken a lesson to play any instrument at that point, and she sat down and she watched his hands. They sat together, and he was showing her what to play, and they wrote a song together.”

Ophelia Saint born in 2014

Grohl confirmed to People that his wife had given birth to their third daughter on Aug. 1. In the lead-up to Ophelia's birth, the couple posed alongside one another at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Baby Grohl No. 4, born in 2024

On Sept. 10, 2024, the musician confirmed that he had become a father for a fourth time with a post on Instagram.

“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” he wrote. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”
