One driver fled the scene of a three-vehicle crash at the intersection of Wellsona Road and Highway 101 north of Paso Robles on Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol said.

A red Volkswagen Jetta, a white Ford Fiesta and a blue Kia collided at the intersection at about 2:08 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol traffic log.

The Kia fled the scene via Wellsona Road and the Ford Fiesta followed, the CHP log said.

People in the Ford Fiesta reported the incident to law enforcement, according to CHP Officer Joel Newby.

The Sheriff’s Office caught up with the Kia on Monterey Road at about 2:18 p.m., Newby said. The Kia’s driver pulled over immediately when they saw the deputies, he said.

The Kia suffered major rear-end damage, Newby said. He did not know if anyone suffered injuries.

The Wellsona Road intersection has been the location of multiple fatal collisions in recent years. It crosses the highway unprotected near the San Paso Truck Stop.

Last month, Paso Robles resident Brianna Mae Thomas died in a collision with a semi truck at the intersection, which is slated for an underpass. Construction is expected to start in the next few months.
