‘That’s so fetch!’: Cancun resort hosts events for National Mean Girls Day

Summer may be on its way out, but Grand Oasis Cancun is ready to welcome the fall in a fun and fetch way. The all-inclusive resort has partnered with CheapCarribean Vacations to celebrate National Mean Girls Day with the brand’s Broadway Bash Package.

The online booking platform, which specializes in the “best in beach travel deals,” and Grand Oasis Cancun are hosting two separate events to celebrate the iconic film: a “pink out” pool party on Wednesday, October 2 – complete with a DJ, activities and all-inclusive cocktails – and a one-hour cabaret performance based on the 2018 Broadway musical adaptation of the 2004 film on October 3. Broadway performers Ashley De La Rosa, English Burnhardt, Olivia Kaufmann, Zurin Villanueva and Eric Huffman will be reprising their roles as Regina George, Cady Heron, Janice Ian, Karen Smith/Gretchen Weiners and Damien, respectively, making the performance a star-studded one. There will also be a post-show meet-and-greet.

The Grand Oasis Cancun is known for its abundant entertainment options. The resort will debut its one-hour Mean Girls cabaret performance on Oct. 3.

“CheapCaribbean is thrilled to bring you another ‘woohoo’ moment by partnering with the team at Broadway Plus to bring cast members of Broadway’s ‘Mean Girls The Musical’ to the beach on such an iconic day. It is these partnerships that have continued to shape who we are as a brand setting us apart from a typical beach getaway experience,” said Dana Studebaker, Vice President of Marketing, Consumer Brands at ALG Vacations, in the event’s press release.

The foray into Broadway Plus partnerships is a first for CheapCaribbean Vacations, Studebaker told DETOUR. The partnership with the Mean Girls brand was a natural one, as the brand’s customer base aligns with the film’s fan base.

“We have been wanting to do something in destination like this, but this was the first one where we felt like we could actually bring it to the resort and bring it to life,” said Studebaker.

“The Broadway piece is also really great for execution,” Studebaker continued, “At Grand Oasis Cancun, [...] they’re known as being the entertainment resort. People that are at that particular resort are expecting entertainment, as well as very receptive to it.”

For Broadway and beach lovers alike, the Mean Girls Broadway Bash Package could be a gateway to more events of its kind.

“[With] a lot of these things, we test and learn and see, ‘What could we have done better? Was it what we expected?’ It takes a lot of planning. We’ve been working on it for [18 months], but as long as the Broadway Plus team is happy with everything and [the CheapCaribbean Vacations] team is happy, we would continue to look for opportunities,” said Studebaker.

The Mean Girls Broadway Bash Package is available for travelers that book their stay at the Grand Oasis Cancun during October 2 – October 3. The last day to book is Monday, September 15. For more information, head to CheapCaribbean Vacations’ website. And don’t forget to pack your pink!
