Florida football defensive back leaving team for personal reasons

Florida Gators defensive back Jadarrius Perkins has left the team for personal reasons and will enter the transfer portal at the end of the season.

Perkins announced his decision on social media on Thursday.

Perkins was second on the depth chart at the star position behind Jaydon Hill, a converted cornerback, to start the 2023 season. He appeared in the Utah game, registering one tackle.

The 6-foot, 192-pound Perkins, from Hattiesburg, Miss., finished his Florida football career with 36 tackles and 1 interception.

Perkins' decision will open up an opportunity for true freshman defensive back Sharif Denson, who will move behind Hill as second in the depth chart at the star spot. Denson, an Under Armour All-American from Jacksonville, was ranked as the eighth-best cornerback and 113th best player in the country coming out of high school by Rivals.

Florida (1-0) will play its home opener on Saturday at The Swamp against McNeese State (7:30 p.m., ESPNU).
